Synthesis Paper

1. What have you Learned best in COMM 100? Why?

I have learned much about the audience as user of media. Uses and gratification to be exact. Uses and gratifications theory takes a more humanistic approach to looking at media use. Because, I believe that there is not merely one way that the public uses media. Instead, that I believe there are as many reasons for using the media, as there are media users. According to the theory, media consumers have a free will to decide how they will use the media and how it will effect them. Hence, the idea that we simply use the media to satisfy a given need does not seem to fully recognize the power of the media in today’s society.

2. How has COMM 100 improved your perspective as a Mass Comm Major?

3. What area in Mass Communication do you still want to focus your studies on?
